Coach Johnson grew up in Mesa, Arizona and graduated from Westwood High School. After HS and serving a two year church mission Coach Johnson married the former Stacy Whetten and started his family. He soon thereafter joined the US Air Force in fall of 1993 where he started training for a career in Computer Communications with a programming specialty. Interested in helping kids even then, he volunteered as an assistant coach with the local little league baseball teams and enjoyed seeing the kids improve. After four years of serving his country, and finishing his Bachelor’s degree, Coach Johnson and family moved back to Mesa. Once in Mesa, Coach Johnson found more youth to coach. This included high school age boys in city league basketball. This is when he knew that he wanted to become a coach year-round and help youth in whatever way he could. His job took the family to Tucson in 1999. There Coach Johnson’s oldest boy joined Pop Warner football. Coach Johnson soon became an assistant coach for two years and fell in love with the game. Moving the family back to Mesa in 2002, the first thing Coach Johnson did was find a Pop Warner football league to volunteer with. The team he was assigned was the Tarantulas. Coach Johnson was the offensive line coach for them for three years. This was when he learned the most about football, attending clinics and coaching camps at every opportunity. After the three years with the Tarantulas, he decided to be a head coach starting in 2005. The Hornets were his new team which he has coached ever since. The Hornets have not only been successful but have a great group of kids that will soon be entering their high school careers with a solid football foundation. In 2006 Coach Johnson and family, with 6 kids, moved to Queen Creek / San Tan Valley area, and are proud members of the Combs School District. Two more kids have come since being out in San Tan Valley and the family is full of future Coyotes. Helping out with the Coyote freshman team on the defensive side of the ball is a dream come true. Coach Johnson is looking forward to learning from the other coaches and helping the current coyote boys achieve their full potential.
