Unit 5 objectives

  • Define the mole concept and explain why it is useful in chemistry.
  • Determine the formula weights of chemical compounds using molecular weights.
  • Calculate moles, grams, volume, or molecules using the mole concept .
  • Calculate percent composition of a substance.
  • Determine an empirical formula from analyses.

 In Class:

  • Lecture and notes to review and clarify the objectives for Unit 5
  • Students will work on completing unit 5
  • Class time needs to be used to ask any questions that were not cleared up by the lecture review

  • 1st lab day will be Wednesday.  Last Lab day will be Friday.  Any person not done with there lab by then will be responsible for coming in after school to complete it.

April 28

  • The rest of the class period was used to get caught up on missing work

Honors

  • Day 1 of 2 lab days for Unit 6
  • Students that are done with the limited reactants and % yield packet were allowed to start the lab today.
  • Students were told that Friday is there last lab day during class time.  If there aren't ready to start the lab by Friday, they need to come in after school to complete it.
  • The lab is a 1-2 day lab
