Millions of teenagers watch visual media on a daily basis. With the advent of YouTube, many of them are drawn to producing visual content for the web. The problem is, most of them have to wait until college before they learn what differentiates professional visuals from the mediocre. The purpose of this visual media department is to teach young filmmakers the rules of the game much earlier, thereby giving them an advantage in the fast-paced, competitive world that many are drawn to, but few become successful at.
The second purpose for this class is to provide students a forum to use their talents in creating visual media in the context of a weekly news program that is aired weekly for the school. The show, entitled Call Of The Wild, is created and produced by the TV/Film students themselves, who learn through work experience how to write a script, direct a story, edit the pieces together, and output to various professional media outlets.
