- Born & raised in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, Illinois
- Graduated from Western Illinois University with a B.A. in Art in 1971
- Certified to teach K-12 Art from Northeastern Illinois University in 2000
- Married with two adult daughters
- Many careers before teaching including my own graphic design company
- Taught middle school art, wood shop & physical education in Naperville, Illinois for four years
- Moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 2005 to teach middle school art in the Cave Creek Unified School District & coached cross country and track & field there for four years, prior to coming to Combs
