About Mr. Poisson

Mr. P.

I am a former business owner and ex-military man that is taking twenty five plus years of business and life experiences to the classroom. It seems that I have more practice in dealing with customers than any one person should, so my new customers (students) will have a new teacher with established people skills (I have seen and heard it all).

I joined the United States Air Force right out of high school. The U.S. invested many tens of thousands of dollars in a comprehensive electronics education that totaled nearly two years. In addition, Uncle Sam financed my pursuit of both an Associate's and a Bachelor's degree while I was living the military life. I traveled all over the U.S. to some of the coldest places imaginable (I won't be charting out a vacation based on my previous travels). After eight years of hurry up and wait - I began a new chapter in my life that was made up of entrepreneurial pursuits and furthering my education.

The years after my military service found me working for other people and sometimes working for myself. In both situations, I found that the secret to success was having the ability to effectively deal with people. I want all of my students to have their shots at success, so I hope that I can share my experience and knowledge with the art and science of effectively dealing with people.

I completed my Master’s degree in Secondary Education in October of 2005 at the University of Phoenix. This degree is added to my Master’s Degree in Public Administration specializing in Public Information Management from Arizona State University, a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Resources Management from the New School for Social Research, and an Associate degree in Applied Science specializing in Avionics Electronics from the Community College of the Air Force. Try to say all of that in one breath.

My number one priority in my life is my family, so I spend a great deal of time with my wife and daughter. We enjoy traveling, watching movies, and spending time together. When I am not with my family, I spend my time learning new things. I have an insatiable hunger for learning. I have seen and believe that knowledge gives me a better understanding of the world around me. I use the knowledge that I have gained to affect positive change around me and in my community.

How does all of this relate to why I became a high school business teacher? I decided to teach because I have been fortunate in my life to have success. I believe that the business and life experiences that I have accumulated are a good base to draw from in teaching the skills necessary to make it in the modern business world. I feel it is the perfect time to give something back to a society that has been pretty good to me.

Finally, I enjoy talking to people, so if you want to sit down and discuss just about anything, schedule an appointment with me and we can chew the fat.
