     Thursday, 03-25:

  • Dangling and misplaced modifiers practice (due Monday, 03-29)
  • Work day: Students who had previously edited and revised their Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde essays used laptops to type final drafts. Those who needed to edit and revise worked in groups to complete the task. Those who were a bit behind used the time to write their rough drafts. Final drafts are due Monday, 03-29.

    Wednesday, 03-24:

  • Edit and revise rough drafts of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde essays (Final drafts are due Monday, 03-29). Some students, who were not ready with their rough drafts, completed a prewrite, wrote their thesis statements, found quotes for support, and planned out their rough drafts. They will edit and revise tomorrow, while those who have finished editing and revising type their final drafts on laptops.
  • Practice identifying dangling and misplaced modifiers (Due tomorrow!)
  • Introduction to unit on propaganda (You can find the video we viewed in class at youtube.com. Do a search on that site for prop commercials.)

  • Writing prompt: Students read prompt, completed a R.A.F.T.S., prewrite, and introduction.
  • Literary Analysis: Students finished their individual analysis papers on a poem of their choice. They then were assigned groups and completed a poster displaying their findings. Groups will present on Wednesday.

    Wednesday, 02-10--

  • Vocabulary list #3 (HW due Wednesday, 02/17)
  • Reading comprehension practice: poetry
  • Poetry literary analysis activity (Students chose a poem from Unit 4 in their literature books to analyze. We will finish the activity on Thursday.)

  • Poetry of William Wordsworth (782-792)--read and discuss
  • HW: Spend 10-15 minutes somewhere in nature. Sit quietly and absorb the sights, sounds, smells, feel of nature. Take notes of the images and ideas that pop into your head. Use your notes to write a poem that reflects nature AND a feeling. Your poem must be at least 14 lines in length. Due Monday, 02-08.

  • If students haven't finished the assignment on evaluating persuasive text, they will have time to finish it today (again, due Monday).
  • Students will begin pre-writing and drafting a persuasive essay on a topic of their choice. The first draft is due Monday, 01-11. 

     Wednesday, 01-06-

  • Today the focus is on reading and evaluating persuasive text. Students will read, take notes, and discuss section R19-R24 in the literary text book, which focuses on persuasive techniques, logical fallacies, and ways to evaluate persuasive writing. Students will practice identifying these techniques and fallacies by analyzing and evaluating passages and articles. Everything is included in a handout, which is due on Monday, 01-11. There will be a quiz on Monday as well.
