Journalism

WEEK OF 04-26 TO 04-30: Students analyzed political cartoons. They worked on articles and layouts. Edited articles were due Friday, and layouts are due next Friday (05-07).

WEEK OF 04-19 TO 04-23: Students had articles due on Tuesday, 04-20. Articles are now in the editing stage, and some students are working on their second articles. Students are experimenting with InDesign, working on newspaper layouts/personal layouts (due May 14), and completing their weekly current event assignment.

WEEK OF 04-12 TO 04-16: This week students are working on their personal layouts (due May 14), articles for the fourth issue of the paper, and their weekly current event.

WEEK OF 04-05 TO 04-09:This week we are printing and handing out the third issue of the newspaper. Students are working on their weekly current event assignment (due Friday), their 1st article for the fourth issue of the newspaper (due April 14), and their layouts (due in May).

  • Worked on Current Event #2 (due Friday)
  • Worked on in-depth layouts (due Tuesday, 04-06)

WEEK OF 02-22 TO 02-26:

WEEK OF 02-15 TO 02-19: This week students continued working on layouts for the third issue of the paper. Those students not involved in completing layouts began preliminary research for an in-depth reporting activity they will be completing in the next two weeks. Each person needs to have three sources for Tuesday, 02-23.

Tuesday, 02-02--

  • Writing a feature story, notes and discussion
  • Feature story writing assignment: Choose a person to write a feature story about and interview them to get story ideas. Your information is due Friday, 02-05.

WEEK OF 01-25 TO 01-29:

  • Tuesday, 01-26-- Students worked on finishing their stylebook lessons. Additionally, students read and discussed an article on immigration reform.
  • Wednesday, 01-27, and Friday, 01-29-- Students presented their lessons.

WEEK OF 01-18 TO 01-22:

  • This week students worked on their stylebook lessons, which will be presented next Wednesday and Friday. They also worked on their first articles for the 3rd edition of the newspaper (articles are due Friday, 01-22).

week of 01-11 to 01-15:

  • Chapter 8 style book notes and activity
  • Cooperative learning activity: Students work with partners to plan and implement a lesson teaching one item from the stylebook. Lessons must include instruction, practice, and assessment. Lesson presentations will begin the week of 01-25.
  • Volume II, Issue II is due to be printed Friday of this week. The editors-in-chief are working on getting layouts ready for publication.

week of 01-05 to 01-08: Students are working on chapter 8 "Journalistic Style." Additionally, they are starting their first articles for the third edition of the newspaper.

Since I am absent this week, the newspaper's second edition will be released next Friday, 01-15.
